bright budget idea for chancellor on a quest for a happy ending
In a land far, far away, the king's treasurer was tossing and turning in his sleep. He had a Budget to announce and was running short of ideas on how to raise more cash.
Over time, the money that came into the king's coffers had been reducing. At the same time, the money the king wanted to spend was increasing on special projects for new schools, hospitals and the armed forces, etc.
Less money was coming in, as the people who paid taxes were finding clever ways of using the Tax Charter not to have to pay so much. In addition, there were fewer people working and some businesses had moved aboad: this combined to reduce the total money coming in.
How was the treasurer to find a solution? Where could he get more money, when money itself was in short supply? He scratched his head; after a few moments an idea came to him...
