copyright

Copyright is a broad right and covers many different things. Some commonly recognised items that attract copyright are works of literature, songs and photographs. However, this right also protects computer programs, architecture and recordings (among other things).

The first owner of copyright is usually the person who creates the work. However, this is less straightforward when that person is working as an employee or contractor when he creates the work. It is common for there to be a dispute of ownership due to a misunderstanding of the default rules of ownership – especially in software and website design.

We work with our clients to ensure ownership of copyright is clear and help them use and enforce it to best suit their needs.
