If you are currently running a successful business it is never too early to give some proper consideration to, and indeed begin planning, your exit. Often the most successful exit strategy for any business owner is to look to the new blood flowing though his or her’s business as the “purchasers” of the business. This has many advantages – not least an existing working relationship and joint knowledge of the business.
However, structuring a successful management buy out – or management buy in – will often involve months if not years of planning. Strategic decisions need to be made about recruitment, training and operational issues as well as timing of exit and role of the “owner” post buyout.
We have acted for many clients who have both sold to their management and indeed have bought out their business from a previous position of management. Therefore, we understand the process from both sides of the deal.
