the business case for going green

 

  • protect the value of your property – a building's energy efficiency and CO2 emissions are likely to impact on its value and marketability.  You can future-proof your property against obsolescence by adopting energy efficiency measures
  • rent out or assign properties more easily – landlords wanting to rent out properties or tenants wishing to assign leases can do so more readily when the building has a good energy efficient rating 
  • access environmental grants and secure favourable tax treatment for energy efficiency improvements – these may not always be available; so act now
  • build a better relationship with your landlord– it is particularly useful for tenants to work closely with their landlords and gain influence on the management of their properties 
  • reduce business costs - the CFC Energy Efficiency Scheme comes fully into effect later this year.  Whilst initially applying generally (but not exclusively) to high energy users, the CRC is likely to be rolled out over time to apply to users of other commercial properties  
  • reputational gain – businesses selling direct to the public may want a green-friendly reputation.  Directors of companies need to take account of their obligations to have “regard to the impact of the company’s operations on the community and environment”
